Skill Share: Canning Your Fall Harvest

When: Sunday, September 16, 2018, 2pm to 4pm
Where: Center for Healthy Living at Ecovillage Charlottesville, 480 Rio Rd. E
Teacher: Kathy Kildea
Participant limit: six
Kathy will demonstrate and walk participants though the process of canning fresh fruits and vegetables.  Come to Ecovillage and get first-hand experience in learning to preserve fresh produce as a way of enjoying your garden harvest or your local farmer’s bumper crop into the fall and winter seasons.  Canning jars and tomatoes will be provided.
About the instructor:  Kathy Kildea is a home canner and former caterer.  Growing up in rural upstate New York, she started gardening and canning with her mother and grandmother, and continues to can fruits, vegetables, jams, chutneys and venison. From 2011 to 2013, she led the Discover You Can program at the Charlottesville City Market. The program, an initiative of the Ball Canning Company, funded canning lessons in farmers markets across the country.
This is a free workshop, and all are welcome! Meet at the Center for Healthy Living, in the EcoVillage Education Institute‘s classroom, in the first building across from the parking area.
